Definition and Purpose. In one (1) hand-held unit, the AM-48 provides the field engineer with two (2) instruments: 1. a transmission Test Set and 2. a telephone "butt-set". The transmission Test Set tests the integrity and quality of 2-wire or 4-wire voice and data transmission lines by sending selected analog signals and measuring standard parameters of the received signals. The telephone "butt set" enables the field engineer to dial up and speak back-and-forth with a field engineer at the far end of the system.
